Capital Punishment: The Megadeth Years is an extremely strong greatest hits album and has three previously unreleased tracks. These unreleased tracks are what this review will mostly focus on as the other songs can have been covered in the reviews for the albums of their original release.

The first track on the album, "Kill the King", has a heavier focus on drum than many Megadeth tracks which is a nice change. The next song, "Dread and the Fugitive Mind", was written for their next album, "The World Needs a Hero", but appears for the first time here. This track has a much more metaphysical emphasis than most of Megadeth's music as the bulk of their work is places more focus on worldly matters. However, some songs have had a metaphysical bent portrayed through internal struggles. Finally, the medley in "Peace Sells...Capital Punishment" contains an extremely good summary of Megadeth's body of work .

Speaking of which, the entire album is almost a reverse chronology of Megadeth's music. It starts with a brand new track, then works backwards through every album released under Capital Records except for Hidden Treasures. I am not sure why this album was skipped other than the fact that it was a compilation album itself. However, it still had a previously unreleased track on it.

This is a great summary album for any new fan to quickly get a feel for the group. It also contains the phenomenal track "Kill the King".
