Countdown to Extinction

Countdown to Extinction is another solid offering from Megadeth full of what they are known for: driving guitar, lots of bass, and socio-political messages. "Symphony of Destruction", "Foreclosure of a Dream", and "Countdown to Extinction" are excellent examples of the politically charged tracks that this album has to offer.

This album feels like a divergence, musically, from previous albums. None of the songs are as fast-paced or thrash-like as the tracks on Peace Sells...But Who's Buying or Rust in Peace for instance - although "Architecture of Aggression" comes fairly close. This divergence is not a negative for the album though as the change of pace allows for new sounds to be expressed.

In short, while - in many ways - not a stereotypical Megadeth album, Countdown to Extinction is a welcome change with songs that stand out and only two tracks of average quality.
