Last.fm widget for Facebook

Yesterday night, my Last.fm widget for Facebook went beta. If you would like to try it out, you can add it here.

If Facebook presents you with a prompt asking to allow the widget to access your e-mail address, say no. I have no interest in starting a mailing list, or annoying people with spam, so I will not be using e-mail addresses for any purpose. Any announcements will either be made on this blog, or on the widget’s profile page on Facebook.

Once you have authorized the application, enter your Last.fm user name in the box provided to allow the widget to download your stats. Be extremely wary if an application ever asks for your Last.fm password in order to check your stats as this is not needed.

Now, go back to your main Facebook page and click on the "Profile" button in the upper right. Then click on the "Options" link under the "Share" box. It will now say "Settings", click it again. At the bottom of this panel, your should see a link that says "application settings page"; click it.

In the list that is displayed, you should see "Music Discussion’s Last.fm widget" (it will have a couple of sixteenth notes as its icon). Click on the "Edit Settings" link and, when the box pops up click on the option to add a tab.

Now, if you click on the "Profile" link in the upper-right again, you should see a new tab. If not, you should see a tab with a couple of arrows pointing to the right. Click on it and you should see a choice called "MD’s last.fm". If so, the widget is installed correctly. Congratulations!

This widget will display three pieces of information. First, it will show the last five tracks that you listened to. Next displayed will be the five songs that you listen to the most. Finally, you will see the last five tracks that you loved. If you see a "review" button next to an album, you can click it to read an album review from Music Reviews.

If you have any questions, problems, or suggestions please either leave a note here or on the widget’s profile page on Facebook. Also, if the widget goes below the fold (i.e. you have to scroll down to see all of it), please let me know what resolution you are running in and whether your browser was running full screen or in a smaller window.

Thanks for the great widget. It works well. Is there a way to control the time zone for the last played? My last fm account is set to Pacific time but the widget is displaying the time +8hrs. Thanks! The only other complaint is that the widget is a little slow to load on the facebook page. But it works and it looks great, so thanks.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Currently the widget uses the time returned by the query to Last.fm, but I have noticed the time being off. I should have a chance to add a time zone feature in the next week or two. I will post a comment here and on the widget’s page on Facebook when the feature has been added.

I have now taken the user’s timezone into account. Full details can be viewed at Last.fm Widget for Facebook 1.01 released.
