imeem review

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across imeem which, like Last.fm, provides music and videos for online perusal. There seems to be more music on imeem than on Last.fm, but Last.fm provides useful services which I went over in a previous post.

The interface for imeem is very self-explanatory; for instance, when I click on the music link, I am provided with a list of genres from which to choose. There is also a search box so, if you have a particular song in mind, you can go directly to it.

While imeem works great for me under Windows, I am having some difficulty with it under Linux. When I attempt to play a song or watch a video, I get a light-grey box and nothing happens. I am not sure what is causing this as flash applications are working for me on other sites, including the one that I wrote to enable listeners to hear my first full-length song. In forums, other people have said that imeem works for them under Linux, so it is probably just a problem with my configuration.

If you have a suggestion on how to get imeem to work under Linux (specifically Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit) and Firefox 3.0.1, please post a reply. Or, if you know of a site comparable to imeem that works under Linux, I would love to check it out.

Yeah Imeem is quite fine! It’s part of the websites which contributed to the revolution in the musical world. However, my favourite one in that context is http://www.deezer.com/en which brought real free and legal music-on-demand! It’s quite great, and it has quite a huge catalogue right now! Check it out.
