Free publicity for independent musicians
If you are a independent musician or are on a smaller label and would like free publicity, feel free to send me a link to your album online, or contact me for my mailing address if you would like to send a CD. So far, I have only heard from two independent artists, and only one of them has sent me an a link to their album (thanks Raccoon Fink).
For those that don’t know, there is a music review site that accompanies this blog. Since the more well-known artists get so much exposure already, the reviews that I write will not impact them very much; for this reason, I am willing to bump albums by lesser known musicians ahead in the queue for review. All reviews have a link to the official site of the artist as well as a link to the album on Amazon (if it exists) for purchase. Spreading your name through word of mouth and having a link for those inspired to buy your album can’t hurt.
You may be asking what I get out of this. A couple of things actually. First, I get exposure to new music. Second, and most obviously, I get content for my site. Third, I get the opportunity to fill a mainly untapped niche as most review sites do not focus on unsigned artists.
Be prepared for a fair critique of your music though. If I think something sucks, I will not hesitate to let the world know. If, on the other hand, you album rocks – so to speak – this may be just the kind of publicity that gets you noticed. I accept submissions of all genres and generally publish 2 or 3 reviews per month.
