Music Discussions

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted anything, so I felt it necessary to say that I have not abandoned this Music Discussions. Also, I wanted to fill everyone in on what has been happening with the site.

First of all, I have posted two new album reviews at Music Reviews. The first, Pump Up the Volume by M|A|R|R|S earned 4 notes out of 5. The second, Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Heads Will Roll received 4.25 notes out of 5.

A bug on the artist list page has been fixed. This bug prevented the artist list page from displaying at all, and was related to the previews site optimization.

The site’s database has been tweaked a little bit. While this does not have much of an impact normally, this will speed up page loads during high-traffic times and will allow the site to scale much larger.

Finally, the Last.fm widget for Facebook has had several fairly large changes on the back-end. The biggest of these changes is making the three calls to Last.fm in parallel as this appeared to be the chief bottle neck in the performance. This one change alone shaved about 2 seconds off of the page load time.

Now that I have some of those tasks out of the way, I hope to have a new post up shortly.
