Game music needs moderation

Recently I purchased Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and was pleasantly surprised to find that entire soundtrack has been taken from John Williams’ score for the movies. However, no matter how well written and performed the music is, there is one glaring issue with its translation to video game format.

The starting area of the game is the cantina from Star Wars (or A New Hope, if you prefer) and, as would be fitting, the cantina band is playing the only song that they know. However, considering that this is the place where you choose which episode and act to play as well as there being achievements to unlock here as well, it is easy to spend quite a deal of time here. Since the cantina band only seems to know how to play one song – but, in their defense, they know it really well – they just play it over and over.

Seriously, these guys are insane. They don’t even stop for drinks even though they are in a cantina. Nor do they ever use the rest room. Just 24/7 "dun da dun da dun dun da dun da da dun da". This actually wouldn’t bother me, except for the fact that I apparently now have it permanently burned into my subconscious. Again, this in itself wouldn’t cause me any difficulties except for the fact that I have been whistling it, tapping it out with my pen, etc. without knowing it. Or, at least I don’t notice until my wife threatens me with bodily harm if I don’t stop.

So please cantina band, please learn at least one more song to mix it up a bit. I’ll even pay for you to take lessons from Max Rebo.
