Music in Advertising
I just encountered a great blog while searching Google for music related sites. This site has a unique concept in that is lists advertisements and television programs that have famous – or not so well known – music playing. What’s more, the articles have a trivia section at the end that tells interesting facts about the movie.
Okay, I hear you screaming tell us the web address already; the site is jinglicio.us. The posts also have video clips so that if you have not seen the commercial or heard the song before, you can follow along with the discussion. One of the articles discusses Black Magic Woman being used to set the tone for a SoBe commercial and, while short, does clearly state the main marketing elements of the ad in a succinct manner.
The real use for this site though – in my opinion – is for those many times that we have all heard a song used in an advertisement and said, “that’s great, what is it and who performs it”. The blog seems pretty comprehensive, so I hope to never experience this issue again. Also, unlike many blogs that I have encountered, jingilicio.us seems to be updated frequently.
If anyone knows of a blog or other web site that performs a similar service for commercials from the 1980’s and 1990’s, please let me know.
