The Mummers' Dance

The Mummer's Dance is a very cohesive single that flows smoothly.

The two versions of the title track are back to back, which is both beneficial and detrimental to the album. The close proximity of the two versions allow for easy comparison, but can lead to the single feeling tiresome.

Fortunately, there are enough differences between the two tracks to alleviate most of that issue. For instance, there are subtle variations in the vocal qualities that are noticeable if you listen closely. The drum is a bit more pronounced in the remix. Also, the intro is less harsh sounding in that version than on the original; this difference is a better fit to the overall song.

Both versions are very melodic and lend to the feeling of a rhythmic, fluid dance. While the remix is significantly longer, it does not feel as if it drags on. Likewise, the shorter mix does not seem to end abruptly. Each version is well arranged and does not leave the listener feeling like it was an afterthought.

The three minutes of chanting in the beginning of "The Mystic's Dream" is a bit too much and starts to feel monotonous, however, I could see this being beneficial for those looking to relax through music. Musically, the rest of the track sounds much like a slower, less lilting version of "The Mummer's Dance".

The rhythm formed by the percussion is extremely similar between the two songs. In addition, there is a similar melodic theme that weaves in and out of them both.

This is a great example of modern Celtic music and would make a fine addition to any music collection.
