Street Level Doppler's first EP, Taking Some Time is a nice fusion of the Classic Rock and Folk Rock styles and, at 4.5 notes, is a phenomenal first release.

While sticking mainly to acoustic guitars, vocals, and drums, Street Level Doppler does makes use a wide range of other instruments in small doses.. Considering that mandolin, synthesizer, bass, electric guitar, and harmonica each appear on several tracking, no song is lacking in a variety of instrumentation.

I would be hard-pressed to come up with an accurate description of the sound overall, which is complimentary given that it indicates originality. However, I can offer a couple of "if you like x band or song, you will probably like y song from Street Level Doppler". For instance, if you like the Beach Boys, you may like "Daydreams". Or, if you like Phish or "Everybody Plays the Fool" by The Main Ingredient, you may like "Taking Some Time". Again, these comparisons show that Street Level Doppler is not some template band formed by a cookie-cutter.

The messages are, for the most part, complex containing mixed feelings and are hard to classify as happy or sad. For instance, in "Daydreams" the narrator is really happy about their imaginings of someone that they admire from afar, but at the same time anxious about actually talking to her. "Not Content To Be Unhappy" reminds me of a more grown-up version of Roger Miller's "You Can't Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd"; only instead of just changing his attitude, the person in this song changes their situation. The most clear cut song on the album, in this regard, is "The Best Days" which tells of how, contrary to societies' view, the teenage years are not always "the best days".

I would highly recommend Taking Some Time to anyone who is into acoustic rock.
