Rust in Peace is one of Megadeth's better known albums, and possibly their most popular.
This album has an overall quicker tempo than many of their later works such as Countdown to Extinction. This album has an overall quicker tempo than many of their later works such as Countdown to Extinction. "Holy Wars", "Hangar 18", and "Tornado of Souls" fit into the Thrash sub-genre than anything on their next album, Countdown to Extinction for instance. There are exceptions though, such as "Dawn Patrol", their foray into Doom Metal.
Thematically, Rust in Peace stays consistent with what fans expect from Megadeth - anti-war and a mistrust of government. "Holy Wars" gives a quick synopsis of the evils cause by killing in a misguided attempt to spread religions with peaceful tenets. Whereas "Rust in Peace..Polaris" describes the horrors that could potentially be brought on by the Polaris missile and its ilk. "Hangar 18" expounds on the mistrust that we have of our government hiding information from us.
This is a strong album overall, and is the last album in Megadeth's older style. A couple of the tracks do not seem to fit, either thematically or musically but, even considering this, Rust in Peace is a strong offering.
