Last week, Mia Mind Music sent me a copy of Last Parade's EP Lead Me Home. I am fortunate that they did as this album makes for a great listening experience.
The sound is kind of hard to describe; there is a definite Folk Rock feeling to Lead Me Home, but there are hints of other sounds as well. I found myself being reminded of Weezer in "The Shape of Her Demise" and the Plain White T's on "Whishful Thinking".
The layered vocals on songs such as "Shape of Her Demise" and "Angel of Adversity" make the vocals interesting without resorting to heavy processing. The panning at the end of "Angel of Adversity" also adds depth to the listening experience. The lyrics are poetic and full of allegory.
And, speaking of lyrics, what Folk Rock album could lack meaning? "Carolina Concrete (She's Stuck Inside The Beltline)" is about living so monotonously that it is impossible to notice that things could be better. While "Words of Advice" describes the narrator's attempt to find his way in the world. The next track, "Lead Me Home" makes an excellent counter-point.
Lead Me Home is a well produced change to much of the over-processed music and is a must-have for any Folk Rock fan.
