Heads Will Roll

The Heads Will Roll single by Yeah Yeah Yeahs contains three versions of the track of the same name: a radio edit, and extended version, and a version with most of the vocals removed.

Atypically, the extended version is an improvement over the shorter radio edit. In the cases of many songs, the longer version becomes very repetive which would be okay for parties where music is being used as a backdrop for socializing, but it is not as good for listening to while you work. However, "Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Club Mix)" varies enough throughout the track to not over stay its welcome.

In several places vocals are used as an rhythmic instrument rather than to convey message; this effect can be particularly observed in the "Heads Will Roll (A-Track Dub Mix)" where all of the vocals except for these, and the final chorus have been removed. Some parts of the music, especially near the half-way mark, that are overpowered by the vocalist are more pronounced with the the dub version. However, this is not to say that the vocals detract from the song; they add to the listening experience and their abundant use or panning, reverb, and other alterations - without being overused - keep the song feeling dynamic.

This is an excellent song, and the three versions on this single are different enough to not make it sound like 15 minutes of the same thing.
